My green Rosy quilt (a Kaffe design) is finished. I just love this quilt. What's not to love about green; it goes with everything. Nature shows us lots of green and it goes with every color of flowers.

My green Rosy quilt (a Kaffe design) is finished. I just love this quilt. What's not to love about green; it goes with everything. Nature shows us lots of green and it goes with every color of flowers.
The 9 patch blocks in this project file are put together with simple straight piecing, though the pieces are rather small. The size of the pieces make the blocks look much more complex than they are.

My favourite today is the second design with blocks which appear darker in the corners creating a diagonal light square in the centre. In a real quilt that could be emphasized by quilting straight lines around the square, ignoring the shape of the blocks.
read moreThis quilt is tricky to photograph. If I use auto adjust in my editing program, it gives the pinks a blue cast so I didn't use it.
I don't feel the necessity to name every quilt but I have to have something to call it when I refer to it. This one has just been Hearts and 4 Patches so far. It has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it and it is 59" x 76".
I bought a couple big yardage pieces of pink prints for backings at a good sale price and this butterfly print is one ... read more
This is as far as I have got with mixing more than two colours in basic 9P blocks … and the results can be stunning if you like the colours!

The half blocks around the edge of the second design are interesting!
read moreThe prints are from several lines of Terrie Mangat fabric, fabric that has waited for 12 years to be used. The design is technically a Single Irish Chain but really it is a celebration of all of the prints. It is 55" x 72". I used all of the fish fabric that was left. I don't know what ...
read moreThis photo was taken in daylight as my reference for the final layout as I sew it together. I only got 2 vertical seams sewn so far. This is technically a Single Irish Chain but the black with white spots isn't strong enough in value to make the chain stand out. The wild fabrics take over in this one.
This print has all of the creatures that are the Chinese symbols of the year plus years noted on each of them when it was the choice.
The second quilt with Terrie Mangat's fabric is going to take a ...

Now I need to cut some squares of the "people" fabric and then I will be ready for the design wall. This will be the simplest of the 2 quilts with these Terrie Mangat fabrics if I end up making both of them.
Another hot humid day predicted so I hired someone to mow my grass this week. I'll spend my time inside designing.
read moreTwo quilts arrived home from longarmer Robin and are waiting to be trimmed and binding sewn on. Maybe by the end of the week I'll get that done.
Some stratas were sewn for the beginning of a quilt with Terrie Mangat fabric. If my idea doesn't work, I can use these as part of a backing.
Still hot and humid here. Tuesday predicted to be 73 degrees. I hope it is true.

I pressed a lot of fabric yesterday to prepare for cutting for about a week.
I also pressed the backing for this small quilt and loaded it on the longarm. Maybe I'll get it quilted today. I hope so. Then I would have the same number of finishes as new quilt tops since the first of the year.
On Thursday I dug up part of my huge green Coral Bell and planted it in the front of the house. I dug up the Sedums that were there and gave them to my granddaughter to plant in front of her ... read more
I am so happy I finally finished this quilt top, started in 1996 while teaching a class.
It is 36" x 42", another one I won't have to piece a back for. I have enough of the parasol fabric for the back and binding. I'm glad I kept the fabrics together all of those years.
I rarely make quilts with just 5 fabrics but this one turned out great, those wonderful 1990s fabrics in it.
I have to document those last blooms on the cactus because I'm not sure I have ever had one bloom this late ... read more
Next I cut the setting triangles for my 1996 quilt. I need to cut 2 more of them and also the corner triangles today.
After that I cut the binding for this star quilt and got it all finished by machine.
There was still a half hour ... read more
I cut one more group of squares to add to my 1996 project. It is the same fabric that is used in the center 9 patches. I think I have enough of the lightest fabric to cut setting triangles and then I can sew this together.
Another 110" is hand stitched on the Charley quilt. There is only 108" left to stitch. I may spread that over 2 days.
The last 2 cacti buds are finally blooming. I think I can safely say these really are the last blooms.
I really like this quilt top, but then I like all of the quilt tops I have made with these neutral color batiks.
This one is 55.5" x 72". The next one which will use the rest of the blocks will be larger.
Here are 3 of the others made with most of the same fabrics and a few different in each quilt. Unfortunately the lighting on the one on the right is bad and I sold it so I can't take another photo.
I mowed grass for a half hour and then went to the garden center ... read more
There are more little 1.5" batik squares to make more 9 patches but I decided to play a little with layouts. Edge to edge isn't very spectacular. Since the blocks will finish at 3", this would only be 12" x 18", about the size of a placemat.
Spacing the blocks out with plain blocks between would stretch this to 18" x 24".
With the blocks on point they measure about 4.25" across so this would be about 21.5" square. After sewing 400 of the 4.5" 9 patches I'm not very anxious to sew a ... read more
I went through all of the piles of 1.5" squares and matched 5 dark/4 light for another batch of blocks. In some there are 5 of the same fabric or 2 similar fabrics and others are 5 different fabrics that look good together. The same is true of the groups of 4.
We had storm warnings last night which turned into nothing in my area so I sewed blocks. This is 23 blocks, 8 of which were made the day before yesterday. I haven't turned on the iron yet to press them.

Brown Bear Paw is finished. I made the decision to use the border fabric for the binding and it is all finished by machine. It is 68" x 82".
This will be a raffle quilt to raise money for Prader-Willi syndrome which my youngest granddaughter's first child was born with. It is very rare and most of us had never heard of it. She is organizing a fund raising walk in mid-May and is including several raffles.
Here is the spectacular back. Having a stash is so wonderful. I had all 3 of these fabrics, no shopping required.

I sewed 100 combinations of 2 fabrics and two 2" strips of batik was enough for 4 blocks. This is the other 301 blocks.
Charley in the Forest came home yesterday, quilted and ready to be trimmed and bound. The trees are upside down in this photo.
I got this Charley Harper fabric, enough or a backing, on sale at a good price and I just love it. You will see the whole quilt in a week or so, depending on when I'm ready to do some hand stitching.
In last night's sewing session I got this top sewn together but it isn't pressed yet so I'll do that today and post its photo tomorrow.

A final decision: I would just make 2 more blocks and then sew it together. I made the 2 blocks last night and now I will decide if any blocks need to be moved and then sew it together. I will still have the option to make one or two more blocks if I'm not entirely happy with it. The photos aren't totally accurate so what I'm seeing on the design wall looks a little different than the photo. read more
My plan from the beginning was to make this quilt 9 blocks wide by 12 blocks tall because I think that would be a well proportioned rectangle. As I get closer to the end I may have changed my mind.
This is currently missing 11 blocks.
(Better lighting on this photo; I remembered to turn on my auxilliary light.)
I rearranged the bottom area shortening the layout to 11 rows tall. This makes the rectangle only 9" longer than it is wide. I just don't think more blue and purple at the bottom would do anything to enhance the ...
